Two years ago we constructed a small emergency and short-term care shelter. We were lucky to have Mariposa & husband, Memo, offer us a lease on a section of their ranch in Pescadero. They have helped with stray and ill animals for years and not only supervised the construction of the shelter but offered, for a very small charge, to care for the animals we put there. They are well suited to the job as Mariposa was a nurse and Memo is an animal groomer and runs the local boarding kennel.

It's a good thing they have kind hearts as we were full immediately. Early summer is puppy and kitten season and we were full up with "throw away" moms and offspring. So far, we have had over 400 animals go through our facility in Pescadero. With the help of Todos Santos resident, Betty, we have set up a site with Pet Finders (go to Petfinders.com and click on "Shelters" then "Mexico" to see us.) Both Mariposa and Janet, owner of Tecolote Books, are magic when it comes to finding good homes for our critters. They were able to place many of these cuties in the U.S. and locally.

While our shelter was being built, Memo and Mariposa turned a building on their property into a small clinic. With the assistance of many vets, mini spay/neuter clinics are held there and more are due to follow. Please remember us when you think about making a donation for animal welfare. We make your dollars go far toward easing the suffering of so many animals. All of the costs of management and promotion are either personally paid for or donated by kind friends of RAS.
